In 2009, FIM-HSG and three partner institutions in Eastern Europe received a research grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation's SCOPES programme for a joint research project entitled "Markets for Executives and Non-Executives in Western and Eastern Europe".

The project “Markets for Executives and Non-Executives in Western and Eastern Europe” investigates the emerging shape of markets for executives and non-executives across Europe, and how efficiency improvements in these labour market segments can serve as a platform for economic growth and prosperity in transition economies. The project extends FIM-HSG’s research on executive and non-executive labour markets to new geographical regions.

The project started in December 2009 and has a planned duration of three years. In the first two years of the project, extensive datasets were collected in each of the partner countries. Subsequently, a first set of research papers were developed by the project partners and presented at the EIBA conference in Bucharest in December 2011. In the final year of the project, the EIBA conference papers are being revised prior to journal submission and further research papers are being co-developed by the project partners.
